LikeHowls Moving Castle, the world ofSherlock Houndincludes steampunk elements that give it a distinctive flair.

Like the original Dr. Watson, hes an army veteran and medic.

He’s also physically larger than Sherlock and not as quick when it comes to deduction.

The shows version of Holmes’s archnemesis, Professor Moriarty, is a highlight ofSherlock Hound.

Moriarty has two fun henchmen, Smiley (Moss) and Todd (Arquette).

While Todd is more of a naysayer, Smiley is utterly loyal.

He and Moriarty have a funny dynamic similar to Robotnik and Agent Stone in theSonic the Hedgehogmovies.

Sherlock is the smartest character on the show, the most perceptive, and inclined to listen to children.

At the same time, the child characters still have the whimsy and playfulness of kids.

Sherlock Houndis a very sweet and pure-hearted take on Holmes, with animation that manages to be lovely.

Even on the shoestring budget, the lovely details areunmistakably Hayao Miyazakis style.

Sherlock Houndis available to stream in the U.S. on Prime Video.
