Budgetary constraints aren’t the only ways in whichGo Tell the Spartansfeels old-fashioned.

The American military has never lost a war, and they won’t start with this one.

Above the cemetery is an inscription: “Go, tell the Spartans, stranger passing by.

That here, obedient to their laws, we lie.”

If only that warning had been heeded in 1964.
