The episode opens with Jay and Mitch at the mall, shopping for Gloria.
Mitch goes up to a piano that’s playing itself, and jokingly pretends to play.
Jay falls for it, which makes Mitch angry.
An especially uncomfortable cold open occurs in the episode where they get caught, “Running with Scissors.”
It opens with Carrie showing up at Big’s hotel room for a rendezvous.

Danny broke up with her soon after, though, because he was ashamed of her.
Mindy finds a newspaper ad from the guy looking for her, and they become pen pals.
The episode opens with Barney giving Ted his adult video collection because he doesn’t need it anymore.
The cold open also has the group call out Barney and Robin for getting too comfortable in their relationship.
In the collection, Ted finds a video that Barney made for him several years earlier.
This was a very hard story line to watch, and is still very painful to rewatch.

The only highlight is Nick’s “two wives” speech.
However, this is mostly just a disappointing cold open, due to Schmidt’s cheating.
The Season 9 premiere opens with everyone summarizing their summers as they wait for Andy to return.
One of these is Kevin’s summary, which ismore sad than funny.
This cold is the worst cold open in any sitcom, becauseit is devastating but played off for laughs.
While trying to glue the shell together, Kevin crushed it.
