Collider: Such remarkable work in this!
PAUL BETTANY: Yeah, I was nervous about certain things failing.
There were a lot of mechanics.
I dont look like him, at all.
The moment its stuck on, its about continually keeping it stuck on.
There are all of those things.

But, I was just excited to do this.
Its been a long time since Ive had a challenge like that, and I relished the idea.
Was that fun to get to do, as actors?

He and I worked really well together, and we really liked each other.
I thought he had a really interesting take, that he looked up to Ted and admired him.
At times, it felt like a brutal paternalistic relationship.

Original thought demands having an imaginative way of thinking, which he had.
He invented a field of forensics to get him.
Its actually a TV show about words, which is amazing.
When you saw what Ted looked like and how he lived, how did that inform things for you?
BETTANY: I think that Ted took himself to a place where loneliness made sense.
Of course, he felt really lonely.
We normalize our behaviors.
I find parties difficult.
Ted found community difficult, and it made him feel odd that he found it so difficult.
He became more and more isolated, and more and more furious.
BETTANY: I dont know.
Its a moot point because its supermax.
I dont know why hed want to meet me.
Im not sure Id want to meet somebody whos playing me.
Although, I think hes quite interested in how hes perceived.
you could see that from his letters to the press.
Would they find commonalities?
BETTANY: Yes, I do.
He has real relationships with people.
He has a girlfriend now, that he is pen pals with.
He maintains relationships with people in letters.
The guy is really smart and really angry and really hurt.
I think thats important.
All we know about you inAvengers: Infinity Waris that youre in it.
Did it feel that way when you were making it?
BETTANY: Yes, it really did.
It looked like a town, but it wasnt.
It was where all of the trailers were.
It was just massive.
The call sheets are bananas.
How are they getting films financed?
Everybody is in this!
Did the Russo brothers have a handle on all of that?
BETTANY: Oh, fuck yeah!
They are so great.
Theyve got so much trust, from the cast and from Kevin Feige and Marvel, in general.
They were incredibly relaxed.
It was a wonderful, relaxed set that was stress free.
It was a stress free set, which was brilliant.
When we last spoke, it was forShelter, which you directed.
Do you have any plans or desire to do that again?
Well, my day job picked up, so Im a little busy, but yes.
I really do want to direct again.
