This year’s DGA nominees wereBradley Cooper,Alfonso Cuaron,Spike Lee,Peter Farrelly, andAdam McKay.
First we haveBradley Cooper, who made a stunning directorial debut withA Star Is Born.
But to pull off the win, Coopers got some serious competition.
Indeed, 12 of the last 13 DGA winners have gone on to win the corresponding Best Director Oscar.
Indeed, outside ofA Star IsBorn,BlacKkKlansmanandBlack Pantherare the films with the most guild nominations.
The final DGA nominee is Adam McKay for his divisive Dick Cheney movieVice.

Who does that leave waiting in the wings?
Wouldn’t that be something if two of the Best Director nominees were for foreign-language films?
And then, of course, there’s theBlack Pantherof it all.

But rules were made to be broken, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Coogler scored a nomination.
Which when they’re bad, okay fine.
ButBlack Pantheris a monumental cinematic achievement, full-stop.

Of course there’s a big difference between who will be nominated and who deserves to be nominated.
