As he battles for survival, he encounters Macrinus, a former slave-turned-merchant, and faces the corrupt twin emperors Caracalla and Geta.
That’s better than a handful of legacy sequels lately.
Washington’s performance, especially, as the award-winning actor delivers one of the best villains of the year.
