This is howAvengers: Infinity War, one of the biggest movies in history, was created.
The inception point, however, is the same for both films.
Which has its pros and cons.
That many balls in the air, its only going to get bigger withInfinity War.

I love his apocalyptic vision, his love affair with death.
I love his power.
But, I dont really understand it.

Hes had a lot of power, and he was cool in the comics.
And Im like, Thanos is the ultimate Marvel villain!
And then I was like, I dont actually know what I would do with Thanos.

And they did an amazing job of keeping that performance on-screen.
But it wasnt like I was like, heres a set of directions.
It was like, this is so cool!
So Whedon was out, but Marvel still needed someone capable of shepherding this massive undertaking.
Clearly the Russos and Marvel saw eye to eye on how to make these kinds of movies.
We didnt wanna do half a movie and then half a movie.

Thanos won and the movie is over.
He trailed off, shaking his head.
We wanted to make that the driving force of Thanos and his backstory.

Regardless, the idea behindInfinity Warwas to introduce Thanos as the films protagonist.
If anything, its the opposite.
Our heroes are foils for the villain, whose story we need to tell at large.

The Russo Brothers even citedOut of Sightas an influence on the film’s style and structure.
But then there were the heroes.
Markus and McFeely officially started writingInfinity Warin early 2015, and the film didnt come out until 2018.

He was like, Listen, guys, Ive been in Australia and were doing crazy stuff!
Gunn even disagreed with a major plot point in the story.
And so we said, If you guys feel that strongly about it, well do it your way.
There are far more pressing things than who may or may not have slept with who.
Like who was going to survive Thanoss snap, and who would get dusted.
And it also was designed to leave behind the original Avengers because Endgame very much follows their story.
It was the reason to adapt Infinity Gauntlet.
What was the most shocking thing we could do?
End the movie with The Snap.
Then I started to get really nervous.
It was like, Wait a minute: what have we done?
The good guy always wins.
And for years I was thinking, Just wait.
Other actors merely got their individual scenes and nothing else.
“And we wanted that ending to be very definitive.
We didnt want to complicate it with other ideas.
So there is one tag that puts a small button it, but thats it.
So any sort of clever savings went out the window at that point.
It was the highest-grossing film of 2018 and still stands as the fourth-highest grossing film of all time.
