The burden of being a woman was palpably present in Aemma’s death scene.

Aemma’s ability to choose was stolen from her.

Laena made the difficult decision to take the possibility of letting the baby survive out of the equation.

In doing so, she was able to take her death into her own hands.

Whether this is the case or not remains to be seen.
