Was that the reaction, or did you want more information?

CARA DELEVINGNE: I definitely wanted more information.

So, the intrigue was huge, but also, the premise of the show was so incredible.

When you read this, what were the immediate questions that you had?

DELEVINGNE: Why did Vignette end up with Philo?

Why did she go back to him, after he lied and hurt her?

No, I dont know.

Thats my personal choice, and not just because of my character.

I was like, Oh, really?

Of course, the tortured woman wants to go back to the man, like all cliche things.

What other questions did I have?

I guess my only question was, How are they gonna pull this off?

It just seemed like a huge undertaking, even with how far CGI and prosthetics and stuff have come.

Im really amazed by the fact that it was done so well.

Whats it like to be on these sets?

DELEVINGNE: Its just unlike thing else that Ill ever experience in my whole life.

This isnt my life.

This is fucking crazy!

And all of these creatures were real.

It really helped set it up for us, when we just had to lose it in there.

After doing something likeValerian, when nothing was real, this was the opposite of that.

When you read this, were you able to visualize what it would look like?

DELEVINGNE: I definitely saw this Victorian London life.

But I couldnt even imagine what it would have been like, in real life.

I just didnt know.

I honestly read it and I was like, How the hell are they gonna do this?

I guessGame of Thronesis the same way.

I just hope people can somehow watch it on bigger screens than their computers, but well see.

DELEVINGNE: Shes definitely stronger than I am.

Shes been through more than anyone in the show, in my opinion.

Her strength has been taken away by everyone, but she still has it left.

Im not like that.

If someone hurts me like that, Ill be like, Bye, see you fuckin later!

Shes like, He loves me and he made a mistake.

Shes a bigger person than I am, Ill tell you that.

She has no pride, whereas I do.

If someone hurts me, Im like, You made me look like an idiot.

She doesnt care about looking like an idiot or not.

She has no ego, either.

She just comes from the heart.

Thats definitely something I had to grow to understand.

What was it like to see what they would look like, and then to see yourself with them?

DELEVINGNE: Oh, god, yeah!

Theyre like big, raw bits of bacon on you.

Thats what it feels like.

How they have babies, and stuff like that, is super cool.

And there were the ears, too.

They didnt want to do anything the same as its been done before.

Is it challenging to navigate a sex scene, while youre wearing the wings?

DELEVINGNE: No, I love it.

DoingPeter Pan, when I had to be a mermaid, its acting.

I do fly in my dreams, so I feel like I have some experience.

What was it like to create a look for her?

Did it go through a process of trying to figure out what that would look like?

Thats faery land, over there.

Its always an open conversation.

Is that something that also was really important to you, as far as bringing that to the character?

DELEVINGNE: That wasnt me.

I didnt create that.

I wish that had been my idea.

And pansexual is the wrong word because, in that world, that doesnt even mean anything.

Theyre just the way they are.

They dont see gender.

They love for love, and they love for someones heart.

Thats what it is.

There are definitely things that we can learn from the fairies.

DELEVINGNE: No, that doesnt surprise me.

And were like, Whatever.

I actually wish it wasnt as relevant, but it is, which is sad.

Do you already know where things will go next?

DELEVINGNE: Yeah, I do, which is very exciting.

I obviously cant say jack shit, but it will be a really fun discovery.

We spoke about Season 2 during Season 1, just because I did always like to ask questions.

Knowing what happens in Season 2, its just exciting that its happening.

Carnival Rowis available to stream at Amazon Prime Video on August 30th.
