And, according to the movies director,Fede Alvarez, this was the plan all along.

He told Collider:

That was another one of those decisions.

I think the first version they showed me had sound.

They had this shit going with some rumble.

Theres a little bit of a track that just does a bit of a hum.

Thats silence in movies.

In Alien: Romulus, a crew of space explorers lands on a distant, uncharted planet, only to uncover a horrifying secret lurking beneath the surface. As they delve deeper into the alien environment, they encounter deadly creatures and ancient ruins that hint at a terrifying history. The team’s survival becomes a desperate battle against the relentless xenomorphs, forcing them to rely on their wits and technology to escape the nightmarish world.

Thats why it feels like a mistake.

Its almost like the sound is gone and you want to adjust your TV.

I do that a few times in the movie.

Ive been using it since.Dont Breathehad a lot of that.

I stripped the ambiance track.Youre left with this unbearable silence.

Its something in my bag of tricks and I believe its something that is truly effective when creating suspense.
